Autocad (The Full Version):

  1. Expensive
  2. Harder to learn
  3. Offers 2D drawing, 3D modeling, and rendering.
  4. For advanced users, it’s the ultimate solution.

The Full Breakdown:

Autocad LT

Autocad is a tool focused on 2D draftings, drawings, and documentation. It costs $50 per month, and you can pay $380 for a full-year subscription. (prices may vary – Check Autodesk.com)

When it comes to User Interaction features, you have ribbon, tool palettes, the command window, object grips, object and layer transparency, dynamic blocks, arrays, and object selection as well as isolation.

In the case of 2D drafting, drawing, and annotation you have text, dimension, leaders, centerlines and center marks, tables, revision clouds, layouts, viewports, fields, and data linking. There are no 3D modeling and visualization features in here, which is something you have to consider if you need 3D features.

Collaboration-wise, Autocad LT features PDF and DGN import, export, and underlay. You also have DWG and image reference support and sheet sets. You will also receive a mobile app, share design view and geolocation support.

Lastly, Autocad LT also features the Trusted DWG tech, high-resolution monitors, as well as migration tools, CUI customization, and a system variable monitor.

Autocad

Autocad is basically the complete version, so you do get all that’s included in Autocad LT and some extra features that will be listed below. You will pay $185.00 per month for it, or you can opt for $1,470 annually.

So, what do you get extra? Autocad has the same user interaction features included in Autocad LT, so the interface is pretty much the same. But when it comes to 2D drafting, drawing, and annotation you do get some extra stuff. This includes data extraction, express tools, and parametric constraints.

Unlike Autocad LT, Autocad does have 3D modeling and visualization features. These include solid, mesh and surface modeling, 3D navigation, visual styles, section planes, rendering, point clouds, model documentation, and the fabled 3D print studio.

Autocad also integrates some extra collaboration features aside from what’s in Autocad LT. This includes the ability to import 3D models and the model references and import features.

When it comes to installation and customization, Autocad delivers some extra features too. Here you can get a secure load, an action recorder, multi-user license sharing, a CAD standards checker as well as an API and access to the AutoDesk app store.

Which One is Better?

If you have a limited budget or you just need to work with 2D content, Autocad LT will be more than ok for you. But if you believe that you need a bit more stuff or you just need to work primarily in 3D, Autocad is the best investment. Sure, it’s more expensive, but it does offer a complete experience, and it may be more suitable for your projects!
